Education
LIFT-B.A.B.I.E.S. will launch soon its education and fund-raising campaigns and will initiate moves to have Congress set up a National Liver Transplant Fund.
The education campaign will seek to familiarize young couples, pediatricians, and the general public about biliary atresia (its symptoms, and the need for pre-screening for babies so that babies with biliary atresia can immediately be given a Kasai Procedure within two months of birth), and other pediatric liver diseases.
Fund-Raising Campaign
The fund-raising campaign will seek to raise funds for the operational needs of the foundation, the establishment of a local pediatric liver transplant program, LIFT-B.A.B.I.E.S. House of Joy, to be patterned after the Ronald McDonald's House of Love in Rochester, MN, which houses, for a minimal cost, liver transplant patients and their families during the patient's recovery period.
Establishment of a National Liver Transplant Fund
The National Liver Transplant Fund will be established through funding from PCSO and other sources to be determined by law, perhaps through sin taxes (i.e., on liquor, cigarettes, horse racing, etc.).
The fund will be for the use of indigent babies and children in need of liver transplants.
